WHY NSUKWE ISI-ELU'S REQUEST FOR AUTONOMY WAS NOT GRANTED BY ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT
As Nsukwe Nkpuke also referred to as Nsukwe Amano finally reunited with the main stream Nsukwe community, after their failed attempt to break away and form their own autonomous community, facts have emerged why the autonomous status they seek from Abia State Government was not granted.
It will be recalled that before the coronation of HRH Eze S.I Anyanwoko as the Isiala I of Nsukwe Autonomous Community, conflict ensued between Nsukwe Amano block and HRH, leading to the former pulling away and leaving only Nsukwe Amaise block to participate in the coronation of HRH.
They further went ahead to form Nsukwe Isi-elu Autonomous Community, elect their own traditional ruler and apply for recognition as an autonomous community from state government
They also applied for the recognition of their union, Nsukwe Isi-elu Development Association from Ubakala Improvement Union.
Ubscope gathered that their request for autonomy was made during the tenure of Governor T.A Orji, who was averse to the creation of additional autonomous communities in the state.
Nsukwe Isi-elu and other communities in Abia State seeking for autonomy were not granted their request during the tenure of Chief T. A Orji, because he was not open to the creation of additional autonomous communities in Abia State
Unlike his predecessor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, who created over 400 autonomous communities during his tenure, Governor T.A Orji created none. He was was only giving staff of office to replace those who died or were removed from office.
During the presentation of staff of office to about 20 traditional rulers in May. 2015, the last he did before leaving office, he revealed to his audience that he had resisted every move to create new autonomous communities in the state since his assumption of office.
The former governor had made similar statement the previous year during similar event to confirm that he was averse to the creation of new autonomous communities during his tenure.
The present governor Okezie Ikpeazu has followed his footsteps as he has refused to create new autonomous communities since assumption of office
With this policy of not creating new autonomous communities adopted by these two governors, all communities including Nsukwe Isi-elu, seeking for autonomy even with genuine reasons lost out as their requests were not considered.
