HOW DR JOHN NWADIGHOHA BECAME THE ACTING CHAIRMAN OF THE GOVERNING COUNCIL ABIA STATE POLYTECHNIC
Following the withdrawal of the Abia State Polytechnic accreditation by the National Board of Technical Education NBTE, due to the failure of the institution to pay staff salaries and allowances for over 30 years, the Abia State Governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, who viewed the decision of NBTE against the Polytechnic as very embarrassing, announced the immediate dissolution and suspension of the council and management of Abia State Polytechnic. and approved the constitution of a task force to restore the withdrawn accreditation within thirty days.
Sir (Dr) John Nwadighoha wasm appointed alongside five others as members of the task force, with Prof.. Ikechi Mgboji as Chairman
Besides restoring the withdrawn accreditation, which was accomplished within record time, they were also saddled with the task of running the management of the institutions. By this they literarily became members of the council and management of the school
Sir John Nwadighoha, later became the acting chairman of the panel, due to the absence of the chairman, Prof. Ikechi Mgboji, who we gathered travelled abroad for another assignment.
In an interview with our correspondent, Sir John Nwadighoha said it was an interesting experience working as member cum acting chairman of the task force charged with the onerous responsibility of running the management of Abia State Polytechnic. "It gave one the impression that one was working as a member of the governing board of the institution. We were on a mission to rescue the institution from the quagmire it found it self, and we thanked God we successfully accomplished all that we were assigned to do. We were able to get the NBTE, to restore the accreditation of the Abia State Polytechnic within thirty days as directed. We were equally saddled with the task of running the management of the institution, which we successfully did. I became the acting chairman, following the reassignment Professor Ikechi Mgboji. After we have stabilized the situation, we submitted our reports and handed over the running of the management of the institution back the council and management of the school in November, 2022"
